Ah, fall.
The leaves are changing, the crisp autumn air drifts through the windows, and quick kids’ crafts are just what your fall afternoon is calling for.
Take a walk, gather up some pinecones, and get to work creating some easy and decorative painted pinecones.
If you are taking a Montessori homeschool or preschool approach, this painted pinecones craft is perfect for adding to your lesson plans.
It’s a great way to incorporate nature and give your kids hands-on learning when it comes to textures in the world around them.
We recommend keeping a container of wet wipes handy, as sometimes the pinecones can have residual sap on them and it can make crafting a very sticky process!
(We learned this the hard way!)
Painted Pinecones Craft for Kids
Ages: 2+
Time: 15-45 minutes
Materials Needed:
- Plastic Tablecloth
- Smock
- Tempera Paint in Fall Colors
- Paint Tray
- Small Bowl of Water
- Rag or Paper Towels
- Sponge or Paintbrush
- Pinecones
- Wax Paper
Directions:
- Clean off the pinecones and remove as much dust and debris as possible.
- Using a sponge or paintbrush, let your little artist paint the pinecone.
- Place the painted pinecones on a non-stick surface, like a piece of wax paper, to dry.
- Place the dry pinecones on your mantle or in a decorative bowl to display.
