Homeschooling can be isolating, but homeschool moms you are not alone!

Homeschool Moms – You Are Not Alone

No one talks about those days when you want to chase the school bus down and beg them to take your darlings with them. No one talks about those days when you’re tired and grumpy and just want to be alone for 5 minutes. No one talks about those days when even the simple act of making a sandwich for someone for lunch can bring you to your breaking point. No one talks about them, but we all have them. We all have those days when the weight of homeschooling sits heavily on our shoulders and our hearts are filled with doubt over whether we’re doing the right thing. We. All. Have. Those. Days.

Starting off on the homeschooling journey can be daunting for sure. There’s so much to learn, so many benchmarks you think you have to meet, so many “am I doing the right thing?!” and “I’m messing this up!” moments. So many. So, so, so many.

The hardest part is feeling alone in it. We homeschool moms are supportive, but we are also guarded. We try so hard not to compare ourselves, our children, our homeschooling efforts to everyone else, because we know that each child and each family is different…but we do anyway. We watch one another and we compare. We struggle with the constant worry that we’re not doing enough, that our children are not where they “should” be, and that we are failing. We have perfected the role of self-critic. We guard ourselves by not giving away too much. And we fail other homeschooling moms when we do this.

I want to tell you, you the new homeschooling mom who is standing on the brink of the school year that if you truly believe in your heart that this is the right decision for your child, that you can do this. You don’t need to be Superwoman, you don’t need to be an expert in algebra, and you don’t need to do it all on your own. There will be days when you’ll cry. There will be days when you get just as excited as your child to see a caterpillar in the grass and you will think This! This is why I chose to homeschool. And there will be days when you will look up private school tuition.

You will have good days and you will have bad days, but you will not be alone. I believe in you and, more importantly, I will help you. On those days when you just don’t know how you can do it any longer and you question every single decision you’ve made about your child’s education, you can cry on my shoulder. This year, I’m going to leave my self-critic at the door and reach out to those who need it most. This year, I will be a better mentor. This year, I will tell someone before I start chasing after the bus. This year, will be the best yet.
