Online Reading Program for Homeschoolers
Going to the library is wonderful, but in an age where technology makes things so much more accessible, having an online reading library for homeschoolers is a must. Thankfully, LightSail offers a comprehensive online reading program just for homeschoolers!
I have been compensated for my time. All opinions are my own.
Improve Reading Skills with LightSail for Homeschoolers
LightSail for Homeschoolers is an adaptive online language arts program for grades pre-K through 12. A foundation in the science of reading and writing combined with the experience of a team of home educators creates a family-friendly learning experience advancing skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and fluency. LightSail provides tens of thousands of ChildSafe books and multimedia resources from leading publishers such as World Book and Lerner Publishing.
There are four main pillars of the LightSail for Homeschoolers program:
1 – Reading
The core of LightSail for Homeschoolers is the reading library component. The books are indexed by Lexile level and the program automatically updates your child’s level every 15 days. That means you don’t have to worry about whether or not they are reading books at the appropriate level – they always are! The reading comprehension assessments are also powerful tools to make sure that children are understanding what they read. Reading comprehension is so very important for readers of all ages!
Our Favorite Part: There are always age-appropriate, level-appropriate books and resources to read. It’s like an adventure everyday finding the books that will be read next!
2 – Writing
Want to encourage your children to write using fun writing prompts? LightSail for Homeschoolers has them! The fun and unique presentation of their writing curriculum keeps students engaged and breaks the writing process down into bite-sized chunks.
Our Favorite Part: The way the writing process is broken down makes it fun and much less intimidating than dedicated writing curriculums.
3 – Vocabulary
Building a strong vocabulary is key to better comprehension and fluency. LightSail for Homeschoolers understands this and has created a vocabulary component to their curriculum. It helps students fully digest the meaning of words and encourages them to make connections to other words that they might be more familiar with. The assessment piece makes it easy for mom or dad to check in to see what was mastered and where more help is needed.
Our Favorite Part: The digital format of the program makes it easy to build vocabulary and quickly find out what new words mean.
4 – Fluency
When a child improves their reading fluency, their self-esteem and confidence also improve. LightSail for Homeschoolers lets students record themselves reading words, sentences, and passages to practice their fluency. This is especially helpful for struggling readers because they can record themselves by themselves without the pressure of having someone else staring at them while they are trying to read!
Our Favorite Part: Hands-down, being able to record themselves reading is what the kids love most about the fluency component of the LightSail for Homeschoolers program.
What We Love about LightSail for Homeschoolers
The LightSail for Homeschoolers language arts platform provides parents with a comprehensive and engaging online reading and writing program for children in grades pre-K through 12. That means you can use it with all of your children at the same time! As a homeschool mom with three children all at different reading levels – this is a huge plus. I could have my dyslexic son reading a book at his level while my advanced reader reads a book at his – all while using the same program and not having to buy yet another program.
Backed by Science
A foundation in the science of reading and writing combined with the experience of a team of home educators creates a family-friendly learning experience advancing skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and fluency. The LightSail literacy platform that has enhanced learning for over 5 million school students is now tailored especially to the educational goals of homeschoolers. As a former teacher, this was really important to me, because there are so many programs out there that are not backed by science and research and it shows. So, to have a reading library that is, just makes it even more wonderful.
A Huge Reading Library to Choose From
LightSail contains an extensive collection of tens of thousands of engaging books and multimedia content from respected publishers such as World Book and Lerner Publishing, as well as trusted homeschool and faith-based publishers. Parents customize this collection to the individual needs of their children and their family values through LightSail’s ChildSafe Content Control Service and reading- and grade-level appropriateness controls. That means that if you only want your child to read faith-based publications you can set that up. Conversely, if you want to keep religion out of their readings, you can customize it so those don’t appear in their searches.
More than just reading
Writing activities complement reading assignments, and LightSail’s chat feature allows parents and children to interact and engage through the platform. Furthermore, LightSail parents have real-time access to meaningful data about their children’s reading and writing trends, comprehension, and growth that allows them to guide, create, and enhance the learning experience.
LightSail’s Commitment to Homeschooling Families
LightSail Inc. is committed to creating a world in which learners maximize their potential through literacy. The family-centric language arts program of LightSail for Homeschoolers builds on LightSail’s effective and award-winning online K-12 literacy platform that has served learners and educators since 2012. The Homeschool platform, developed with experienced home educators, features unique ChildSafe Content controls. Students have access to personalized libraries filled with tens of thousands of engaging texts and multimedia resources through content partnerships with World Book and Lerner Publishing. Parents and educators receive real-time access to meaningful data about children’s reading, writing, comprehension, and LexileⓇ performance. LightSail’s partnerships with leading publishers such as Penguin Random House and HarperCollins enable homeschool families, schools, and districts to grow their libraries even further with an e-bookstore embedded in its platforms. For more information, visit www.homeschoolingliteracy.com.
