What to Consider When Planning a Move for a Growing Family
Moving is never fun or easy. However, as the size of the family expands, relocation becomes increasingly complex. The addition of extra items, altered schedules, educational needs, and even the requirement of more space for the family add to the complexity.

Proper planning can make the move simpler while also helping parents manage the practical demands before, during, and after the move. Here are some things to consider beforehand.
Choosing Suitable Living Space
More than simply extra square feet is required by a growing family. Parents must consider the functionality of bedrooms, bathrooms, storage spaces, the kitchen, and common areas as their children mature. The house that seems large now may prove challenging to maneuver as the children require individual rooms for sleep or study, and downtime. Considering such changes prior to buying a new property can prevent families from making another move.
The location of the house is also something that families should seriously consider. They may prefer being located near schools, parks, daycare centers, healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation.
The commute may have a big impact on the family’s routine as parents struggle to make it between work and school drop-offs and other extracurriculars.

Planning Around Family Schedules
Moving plans need to factor in the schedules of all family members. There might be a need to schedule moving dates that are least disruptive to work and school schedules.
Another important aspect to consider when moving is when to tell children about the move. Young ones might find it disturbing when familiar surroundings start to change, while older ones might be worried about making new friends or transferring to new schools. It is a good idea for parents to talk with their children and let them make some of the decisions about moving.
Managing Belongings Before Moving
Growing families accumulate clothes, toys, furniture, books, sports goods, and much more very quickly. The move gives everyone a chance to sort all the things and decide which ones they really need in the new house. Donate, recycle, sell, or discard all those things that you don’t use anymore. This will make packing and unpacking easier.
Families also have to consider which belongings need to be packed with extra care. Things such as children’s furniture, electronics, breakable decorations, and other fragile household items have to be packed with care.
When my sister-in-law in Canada moved, their household included lots of belongings and big, heavy furniture that she and the children weren’t able to move themselves. We offered to help, but (thankfully!) she decided working with a Toronto moving company would be more helpful. I can’t say that I was disappointed about not having to drive a moving truck through the city or carry her dining room buffet down two flights of stairs. Ha!

Preparing the New Home
Before moving day, the family should decide how the new house will meet their immediate needs. Room dimensions will help parents decide how to arrange furniture and where everything will go. It is also good to know what rooms will be assigned to the kids for sleeping, studying, storing things, and keeping frequently used household items. A clear plan of action will make the transition easier for everyone.
It is also important to consider safety issues before children start using the new house. Parents can assess staircases, windows, doors, electrical sockets, and other areas where things can be stored safely. Younger children may need more care, while older ones may need dedicated study spaces and storage for their personal belongings.
A Move That Works for Everyone
Family expansion requires considering present and future factors when planning to relocate. These factors include finding a space that suits your family, choosing a good location, coordinating schedules, getting rid of unwanted items, and preparing the new house. When all these things are well-planned, then moving day should be easier for everyone involved.
May the odds be ever in your favor as you move!
