Florida is a peninsula

A peninsula is land that is surrounded by water on three sides. 

Florida waters include the Gulf of Mexico to the west, the Straits of Florida to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. 

No matter where you are in Florida, you are within 60 miles of saltwater.  

Florida’s nickname is the Sunshine State

Florida is the Sunshine State!  Why?  Well, it has over 300 days of sun in a year.  

That is a lot of sunshine!  With miles of coastline, there’s no better place to soak up all that sun than on a Florida beach!

Florida is home to Disney World

Disney World is in Orlando, Florida, and it is a very popular tourist destination! 

With its fascinating attractions and whimsical adventures, Disney World hosts more than 62,000 visitors every day!

Rockets take off from Florida

Cape Canaveral is home to the Kennedy Space Center! 

American astronauts have been entering space from this location since 1968. 

Rockets have taken them to the moon, to satellites, and to the International Space Station. 

You can even go and see a rocket launch in person!  How cool is that? 

America’s Everglades are in Florida

Everglades National Park is a wetland ecosystem located at the very bottom tip of Florida. 

It is the largest subtropical wilderness area in America and is home to many rare and endangered plants and animals. 

The Everglades covers much of South Florida with 1.5 million acres of wetlands attracting many visitors to explore through hiking, boating, camping and more!

Florida has a state reptile

Yes, it’s true!  The American Alligator is the state reptile of Florida. 

Alligators are found all throughout the sunshine state, making their home in lakes, swamps, and wetlands like the Everglades. 

In fact, the Everglades is the only place in the world where alligators cohabitate with crocodiles.  That’s incredible!   

Florida produces a lot of fruit

We are all aware that Florida is known for the best oranges. 

It’s a fact that seventy percent of America’s oranges come from Florida. 

But, did you know that Florida is a top producer of other fruits, as well? 

Many tomatoes, strawberries and watermelons come from Florida too!  Yummy!

Florida is a wonderful place! 

The perfect spot to catch some rays, see a rocket launch, and explore national parks, the sunshine state can’t be beat.
