Sidewalk creations are magical!

Make your own with just a few pieces of sidewalk chalk (you can even use glitter chalk).

You can create pictures and designs, or you can play sidewalk games.

Here are some variations on classic hopscotch.

These sidewalk chalk games are great for motor skills practice.

Day 2: Nature Scavenger Hunt

Day 3: Make Homemade Popsicles

Popsicles are a quintessential summertime food.

Make your own as a family activity.

If you have popsicle molds, the process is straightforward.

If you don’t, you can still make popsicles. Fill an ice cube tray with your popsicle mixture.

Cover it tightly with cling wrap.

Then, insert a sturdy toothpick into the center of each cube. Freeze until set.

What flavor should you make your popsicles? The sky is the limit!

Any smoothie recipe makes for an excellent popsicle flavor.

Fruit juice also works well.

Do you prefer chocolate? Make some pudding and freeze it into popsicles!

Day 4: Water Balloon Toss and Games

Summer temperatures are perfect for playing with water balloons.

You can play a basic water balloon toss.

You can also play games like Hot Potato, dodgeball, tag, and relay races with water balloons.

Day 5: Outdoor Movie Night in the Backyard

Watch a family movie in the backyard!

If you don’t own a projector, see if you can borrow one from a friend.

You can also invest in one. This projector costs less than $100 and is compatible with your phone.

You can make a screen by hanging a white sheet over a clothesline.

Select a movie everyone will enjoy. Here is a list of movies based on children’s books.

Pop the popcorn, grab some blankets, and prepare for the show!

Week 1 is the ideal time to plant flowers, fruits, veggies, or herbs.

You can plant some semi-mature flowers or plants.

Or you can plant some seeds. Before you do this, research which plants grow best in your area.

Flowers like poppies, zinnia, sunflowers, and marigolds grow quickly from seed.

Cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, peppers, and tomatoes are popular summertime fruits and veggies.

You don’t need a patch of earth to garden. You can also successfully grow plants in containers. Tomatoes, herbs, and flowers thrive in pots.

Day 7: Family Picnic at a Local Park

Enjoy lunch or dinner al fresco! Pack a picnic lunch and head to your local park.

You can pack your dinner or grab a bucket of fried chicken on the way. Keep it simple!

Pack some activities, like a ball, frisbee, bubbles, or bug-collecting box. You can also choose a park with a playground.
