Most know Einstein for his strong math and science background, but few know he was also a great violin player.

Einstein campaigned for Civil Rights. He even went as far as to pay for tuition for a black man to attend college.
3. Einstein Was Not Great at Everything
Although he was a notoriously poor sailor, Einstein loved it! It is said that he would, more often than not, end up flipping his sailboat and would need to be rescued.

5. Einstein Never Wore Socks
Einstein never wore socks and was proud of it! He wore high boots to hide that he wasn’t wearing socks. How do we know this? He wrote it in a letter to his second cousin (and future wife) Elsa.

6. A Work Trip Brought Him to the U.S., but the Nazis Kept Him Here
What started as a two-month work trip to the United States with his wife Elsa ended with them staying in the U.S.
The Nazis viewed Einstein and his science as a threat. Einstein also had Jewish roots, which threatened his life during the antisemitism movement in Germany.
7. Einstein’s Brain Was Stolen
After his death, Einstein’s body had an autopsy performed on it. The head pathologist, Thomas Stoltz Harvey, stole Einstein’s brain and eyes to conduct more studies.
After Einstein’s family found out, they eventually gave permission (thankfully) for more research on Einstein’sbrain to figure out what made him so brilliant.
8. He Prioritized Sleep
Most people aim to get eight hours of shut-eye. Not Einstein. He knew the brain needed rest and would consistently get 10 hours of sleep each night.

9. The FBI Spied on Einstein
The FBI feared Einstein’s intelligence, Civil Rights activism, and pacifism.
This resulted in 22 years of spying on this genius. From opening his mail, listening to his phone calls, and going through his trash, nothing was off-limits for Hoover’s FBI team.
10. Einstein was Asked to Be President
Even though he wasn’t a citizen, Einstein was asked to be the president of Israel.
Even though he wasn’t outwardly religious, he was connected to Israel (and the Jewish Promised Land, Palestine) through his Jewish roots.
Einstein quickly refused the offer to become president because he had no desire to rule people and viewed himself as a world citizen, not a country citizen.
He also stated in a letter to the Israeli ambassador that he lacked the aptitude and experience to be a president.
