Different Countries Have Different Names for Cupcakes
It’s true that cupcakes are a delightful treat all over the world.
However, they may go by a different name depending on where you are.
The people of Britain call cupcakes fairy cakes.
While the concept is similar (tiny little cakes), cupcakes in Britain have the tops removed and then cut in half.
Once the two halves are put back on top of the cupcake, the cupcake looks like it has fairy wings.
Hence the name, fairy cakes.
Similarly, fairy cakes can be called butterfly cakes too because of the winged appearance of the top.
Australians call cupcakes patty cakes.
Do you remember the clapping rhyme?
“Patty cake, patty cake, baker’s man, bake me a cake, as fast as you can….”
The Largest Cupcake was Made in 2009
The world’s largest cupcake was created in the summer of ‘09.
It weighed 1,224 pounds and was 4 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
Now, that is one giant cupcake!
