10 Minute-to-Win-It Games for Family Game Night

All of these games are super easy to understand, but can definitely pose a challenge during your Minute-to-Win-It competitions.

Whether you’re a teacher looking for fun activities to include at the end of your semester or a family who could use a little indoor excitement, all of these games can give you just what you’re looking for.

Use these games for quick team building activities, party entertainment, or for a family feud kind of night.

Prepping Your Minute to Win It Games

Each game only requires a very minimal amount of materials and could be done for any family game night.

You could even play the games with family members or friends in different states or countries over FaceTime or Skype if you both have the materials you need!

So, find your stopwatch and get to playing!

3, 2, 1… Go!

1. BACK FLIP

No backs were injured during this flip-ping awesome game!

What You’ll Need: 

  • 12 or 24 pencils (12 per player)

How to Play: 

  1. Line the pencils up at the edge of a table, grouping 6 groups of 2 together. 
  2. When the timer starts, the player must balance 2 pencils on the back of their hand, flip them, and catch them both before they fall.
  3. The player must continue this by adding 2 more pencils, flipping, catching, until all 12 pencils are balanced, flipped, and caught. 
  4. If the pencils fall at any point, the player must start over. 
  5. The player that is able to do this before a minute is up wins!

2. RAPID FIRE

You have to move quickly, but with accuracy in this game!

What You’ll Need: 

  • bag of slightly thick rubber bands
  • 6 empty soda cans (make it 12 if playing head-to-head)

How to Play: 

  1. On a stool or at the end of a table, stack the empty soda cans into a pyramid. 
  2. Line your player up about 6-10 feet away, but facing the pyramid. Make sure they have those rubber bands ready!
  3. When the timer starts, the player must shoot the rubber bands across the room in an attempt to knock down the pyramid. 
  4. The player who is able to knock the pyramid down the fastest wins!

3. READY SPAGHETTI

Divide yourselves into teams of two and get ready for this wacky noodle game.

What You’ll Need: 

  • uncooked spaghetti noodles
  • 6-12 empty soda cans with tabs sticking up

How to Play: 

  1. On one side of a room, place a tray table or end table. Put all the empty soda cans with their tabs sticking up. On the other side of the room have another tray table or end table with nothing on it. 
  2. One player will put one end of one uncooked spaghetti noodle in their mouth, while the other player will be ready to take hold of the other end with their mouth. They are starting on the side with the soda cans.
  3. When the timer starts, the team will have one minute to get as many soda cans to the other side of the room. The catch is they can’t use their hands! They will need to pass the piece of uncooked spaghetti through the soda can tab, the teammate will grab the other side of the spaghetti noodle. Both members of the team will have to carefully carry the soda can to the empty table. 
  4. If the noodle breaks, just grab a new piece. 
  5. The team that is able to get the most soda cans across the room in under a minute wins!

4. FLOATACIOUS

Balancing a stack of empty soda cans is somewhat difficult, but spice it up by attempting to stack them on a plastic plate floating in water…

Good luck!

What You’ll Need: 

  • 5 soda cans
  • 1 disposable plastic plate
  • 1 bowl with a diameter larger than the plastic place
  • water 

How to Play: 

  1. Fill the bowl 3/4 of the way with water. 
  2. When the timer starts, the player will need to gently place the plastic plate on top of the water so that it is floating. 
  3. They will need to then stack the soda cans on top of the plate without capsizing the plate or without the cans falling off the stack. 
  4. The player who is able to do this under a minute or the fastest is the winner.

5. BRIDGE THE GAP

Talk about difficult!

Bridge the Gap is a Minute to Win It game you won’t forget. 

What You’ll Need: 

  • deck of cards
  • 2 thick books of the same thickness

How to Play: 

  1. Split the deck of cards in half. Keep the box they came in nearby. 
  2. Place the 2 books about 6-8 inches apart. Place each half on one book’s edge, ensuring they are facing one another.
  3. When the timer starts, the player must attempt to create a bridge of cards in the space between the books. Then they will need to place the empty box in the center of the bridge without the bridge falling apart. 
  4. The first player to be able to do this in a minute or less wins!

6. BALANCE THE BALLS

Getting ping pong balls from one bowl to another seems pretty easy…

Right?

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 bowls
  • 2 spoons
  • 12 ping pong balls

How to Play:

  1. Place two bowls with 6 ping pong balls in each on one end of a room. On the other end, place the two empty bowls.
  2. When the timer starts, the head-to-head players will need to place their spoon in their mouth and scoop up a ping pong ball from their bowl and walk it over to their empty bowl on the other side of the room.
  3. The players cannot use their hands. If the ball drops mid-walk, they must start over. The players will continue to do this until the timer is up. The player with the most ping pong balls in their second bowl is the winner!

7. MOVING ON UP

How fast do you think you can move on up in this game? 

What You’ll Need: 

  • 24 plastic red cups 
  • 1 plastic blue cup

How to Play: 

  1. Place the 1 plastic blue cup on the bottom of the stack of 24 red cups. 
  2. When the timer starts, the player must take the top cup and stack it on the bottom. They must continue to do this, one cup at a time until the blue cup is on the top of the stack. 
  3. The player has one minute to complete this, but the player that can do this the fastest wins the game!

8. BOUNCE-A-BALL

Can you bounce a ping pong ball onto the table and into a cup?

Try it six times under a minute!

What You’ll Need: 

  • 6 plastic cups
  • at least 6 ping pong balls (a big bowl-full is better to save time)

How to Play: 

  1. Line the 6 cups up on a table, spaced evenly apart and about an arms distance from the player. 
  2. When the timer starts, the player will need to bounce a ping pong ball onto the table and into the first cup. They won’t be able to move onto the next cup until they successfully get the ping pong ball into the cup. 
  3. The player must get a ping pong ball in all six cups before the timer is up. The player to do this the fastest wins the game.

9. RING TOSS

This may not be your traditional version of ring toss, but check this out for a fun Minute to Win It game with household items!

What You’ll Need: 

  • A bag of rubber bands
  • 6 water bottles

How to Play: 

  1. Standing the water bottles upright, group them together in a pyramid. 
  2. The player will have the bag of rubber bands ready. When the timer starts, they must toss a single rubber band at a time to attempt to loop around one of the water bottles. 
  3. The player that is able to do this to all six water bottles the quickest under a minute is declared the winner!

10. TUNA ROLL

What You’ll Need: 

  • cans of tuna
  • 4 empty water bottles or soda cans

How to Play: 

  1. Place the empty water bottles/soda cans in a group together. 
  2. The player will stand next to the group of bottles/cans and will need to roll the tuna can in a circle so that it comes rolling back to knock the bottles/cans over.
